French Ministry of Foreign Affairs
top
Description
The Residency for Literary translators is a brand new programme launched jointly by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Villa Gillet in 2005. It provides a six-week residency to translators wishing to work on a translation from the French. The translator will be staying at Villa Gillet, Les Subsistances, in Lyons, and will take part in the city's cultural life.
Terms & Conditions
To launch the programme, the Director of Villa Gillet is looking for experienced literary translators able to participate in public events and run workshops.
The translator must not be working on a commissionned translation, the aim of the residency being to allow translators to focus on French works that have not been bought by a British or an American publisher yet.
Applications, consisting of a CV and a formal letter of application, should be submitted to the Book Attaché before October 31 of the current year. Three grants are awarded each year for the following. The dates of the residency will be chosen in agreement with the Director of Villa Gillet.
